Don't Let It Beat You Twice

Hey Friends,

Happy Friday!

I hope you’ve all had a great week. After last week, I’ve really had a heightened sense of things I can’t control/change. I’ve been more aware of the moments where I may slip into a thought that doesn’t serve me anymore. When I do, I simply say "Radical Acceptance. God knows all things." and I keep it pushing.

I’m attempting to be more intentional about my thoughts and how I allow them to drift. Ensuring that I am being present in the now, not in the should've, could've, didn't, etc.

After chatting with you last week, I was reminded of the importance of not allowing something to beat you twice. I often listen to the Woman Evolve podcast, and a couple months ago, I was listening to an episode featuring Yvonne Oriji. Yvonne dropped this gem:

“Don’t let it beat you twice.“

Seemingly the reminder that once it's happened and you've lived through that moment, there's no need to punish yourself for the things you did or didn't do. Things you did or didn't know. etc. At least that's how I received it.

I hadn’t realized it, but the thing that I was so caught up on was in fact whooping me.

Three times over.

Last week I shared with my therapist that I'm relatively good at being optimistic and encouraging to others, but the thing we were discussing was the one thing I seemingly continued to fail at. As my eyes filled with tears.. Might I add that they would not fall.. at least not on that call.

She reminded me that two things can be true, I can be good at those things and still have this one area where healing needs to take place. She also reminded me that, I in fact was not failing... it's just that the moment i'm tripping on is tied to so many other things. It's bigger than I could see. This is when I realized that the floor was calling my name, and that any assistance would've been greatly appreciated.

Remember how I said I thought someone was going to have to come pick me up off the floor? Well, Jesus in fact did.

He reminded me that the first step to moving forward is accepting things we don't necessarily want to face. That not facing them, doesn't make them any less true. And just because they're true, doesn't mean they can't be used for my good. Or yours, for that matter.

Friend, do you have anything beating you? Have you held on to something longer than you should? Trust me when I say greater is on the other side of it. You conquered it once, no need to continue to review the perceived facts. No matter how hard we nurse and rehearse it, we can't change it.

So what are we even doing? Give it God and go be great.

Let's chat soon.

-HH
